Changelog

What's new in ChessAnalyzer.

Every update, newest first. Nothing to install — reload the page and it's already there.

  1. 3 updates

    New sounds

The board sounds are made in the browser now, and every grade has its own note.

    • New. Moves, captures, castling, promotions, checks and checkmate each have their own sound, all made on the spot instead of played from audio files.
    • New. Every grade has a sound too — a bright rise for a great move, a low thud for a blunder.
    • Removed. The old Chess.com sound files are gone, so nothing recorded by another site ships with the app.
  2. 6 updates

    A clearer analysis panel

The panel beside the board is easier to read at a glance.

    • New. The score is now the big number at the top, with a bar that shows who is ahead.
    • New. The engine's suggestions are a numbered list with the best move first, instead of three identical boxes.
    • New. You can see how deeply the engine searched, and which engine it is.
    • New. The move you played shows its grade and how much it cost.
    • Changed. Reviews now search a little deeper than before, so they agree more often with the live analysis.
    • Improved. The opening, the result and the players share one small row.
  3. 4 updates

A coach that talks like a person

Rook has more to say, and stops praising moves you had no choice about.

    • New. If a move was forced, the coach now says so instead of calling it the best move.
    • Improved. The coach has more ways to describe the same idea, so it no longer repeats one sentence over and over.
    • Improved. The coach's picture is bigger when you walk through a game.
    • Fixed. The coach's mouth moves while it talks, even if your computer is set to reduce animations.
  4. 3 updates

Reviews finish in a fraction of the time

The app was doing three times more work than it needed to.

    • Improved. The app asked the engine for three lines of analysis but only ever used the first. Asking for one makes reviews about four times faster.
    • Fixed. A 33-move game now takes about 20 seconds instead of 85, and no longer sits at 94%.
    • Fixed. The arrow on the button keeps spinning while the review runs, even with animations reduced.
  5. 4 updates

    Phone and small-screen fixes

The things that used to be a scroll away, or a few pixels too wide.

    • Fixed. The end-of-game card fits on a phone now, so “Walk Through Moves” is visible without scrolling.
    • Fixed. Long player names no longer push the score out of the accuracy card on smaller laptops.
    • New. On phones there are move buttons under the board, so you can step through a game without scrolling away.
    • Fixed. The Chess.com / Lichess switch fills the search box properly on a phone.
  6. 5 updates

A new look and clearer names

A knight, a warmer palette, and words that say what they mean.

    • New. A new logo — a knight with a rising line — with the tagline centred under the name.
    • Changed. “Game Review” is now “Match Breakdown”, and “Start Review” is “Walk Through Moves”.
    • Changed. The grades read Masterstroke, Best, Strong, Solid, Theory, Inaccuracy, Mistake, Blunder and Missed Win.
    • New. A warmer colour scheme, with a slate board by default.
    • Fixed. Long usernames no longer run under the score in the end-of-game card.
  7. 3 updates

    Links and imports

A pasted Chess.com link now opens the game instead of asking who played it.

    • Fixed. Chess.com game links open the right game.
    • Fixed. Links to a game's review page are recognised too.
    • Improved. If a link has no username in it, the app still asks for one — Chess.com doesn't offer another way.
